Are your pawfumes safe for dogs?
Steer clear of using human perfume on your furry friends – it's a no-go! Those human scents might not sit well with your pup's delicate nose. Dogs have a finely-tuned sense of smell, and strong human fragrances can do them a bamboozle. Plus, the chemicals in those fancy perfumes can be downright unfriendly to your dog's skin and overall well-being.
Instead, opt for a kinder approach to keeping your doggo smelling daisy-fresh. Choose a dog-specific perfume that's made just for them, with gentle ingredients that won't stir up any irritation. At houseofdog, we’ve kept our ingredients to a minimum to reduce any potential irritation. However, individual sensitivities can vary, and it's always a good idea to perform a patch test before using any new product on your dog's skin. If you're concerned about your dog's reaction to any specific ingredient, you might want to consult with a veterinarian or a professional groomer who has experience with dog grooming products.
How do I safely apply pawfume?
For those new to using a dog fragrance, here are some helpful tips we suggest:
Select a Calm Spot: Choose a location where your pooch feels relaxed and at ease.
Brushing (Optional): If your dog enjoys brushing, give their coat a quick brush before applying the fragrance. This helps eliminate any debris or loose fur and ensures the fragrance adheres evenly and lasts longer. If your dog is not a fan of brushing, feel free to skip this step. Our goal is to make it a delightful experience for both you and your pooch, devoid of any anxiety.
Application Technique: To begin, we recommend spraying houseofdog pawfume onto your hands and then gently applying it to your dog's coat. Be sure to avoid sensitive areas such as the eyes, ears, and areas of skin without fur coverage. Applying the fragrance by hand not only allows for a beautiful bonding moment but also ensures that the fragrance is applied to the right places.
Quantity: The amount you'll need depends on the size of your dog. For larger dogs like chief houseofdog canine Ralph, 5-6 sprays are typically sufficient. After applying, you can gently massage it into their coat.
Bedding and Car Mat: You can also enhance your dog's environment by spraying the fragrance on their bedding or car mat for a pleasant and inviting atmosphere.
What are the ingredients?
Ha nice try! Our formula is as closely guarded as the Colonel's mystical blend of herbs and spices for KFC!
Each pawfume contains:
Water (Aqua), Solubiliser, Fragrance.
If you have a specific enquiry about the fragrances in a particular scent, please drop us a line at hello@lovehouseofdog.com
Can I use it on my puppy?
We recommend using it on your pooch from 12 weeks up.
Aw snap! My discount code doesn't work.
There's a few pawsible reasons why your code isn't working:
- You've already unleashed its power. Most codes are here for a good time not a long time.
- Someone might have played a little 'typo trick' while entering the code.
- Someone at HoDquarters (let's blame Ralph) has banana fingers/paws and made a mistake.
If you think there is an error, please drop us a line at hello@lovehouseofdog.com
We're here to help you and your discounts get back on the right track!
Can hoomans wear it? (asking for a friend)
Can I get a “heck yeah!” Let’s be honest, our pawfumes are to suit the human nose, striking a delicate balance between your pup's scent preferences and ours. If it was solely for the dog to enjoy we would have put raw meat and manure in it with a dash of swamp.
We’ve crafted them with doggos in mind so there are few key deliberate differences if you want to spray them on yourself:
- The product feels “wet”. This is because we have used a water-based solubiliser instead of an alcohol-based solubiliser. Be sure to read our blog on the benefits of this approach.
- For every scent receptor a human has, a dog has about 50. So we’ve crafted the scent to not overpower the pooch’s natural smelling abilities. Our pawfumes may be more subtle than human fragrances that you are used to
- You can use the spray on your clothes, or on your pooch’s bedding, or as a room spray thanks to its alcohol-free nature.
How long does a bottle of pawfume last for?
Our 50ml/1.7Oz bottles should yield approximately 450-600 sprays. How long it lasts really depends on the size of your dog, frequency of use (and whether you spray it on yourself too!)
Ralph wears it daily and gets around 6 sprays, so lasts us around 3 months. Yet he’s very much at the upper end of the big and smelly spectrum.
For home use, we recommend a 50ml bottle to ensure that the quality of the perfume can be maintained. When stored in a cool, dimly lit place, the quality of your pawfume can be maintained for 2 years.
Why do your pawfumes feel really “wet”?
We'll admit, our pawfumes are on a touch on the “m-word” side. This is because we have used a water-based solubiliser instead of an alcohol-based solubiliser. Be sure to read our blog on the benefits of this approach.
Where are your pawfumes made?
Houseofdog is a brand under the company Mama Cass Enterprises, an Australian company. Our products are proudly Australian made.
Help! My dog runs away every time he sees the bottle!
This is uncommon but not unheard of. We know a dog that does this (although he also runs and hides under a glass table whenever you get his lead out, so just saying!) At HoD, we have designed our pawfumes to be functional yet also to create beautiful bonding moments. If your pup isn't a bottle enthusiast, apply the spray to your hands and massage it into their fur. That way you both get the benefits without the bottle-induced anxiety.
What if my dog doesn’t like the smell?
Sad face. Pups have their own unique preferences, and sometimes, a scent might not be their cup of kibble. If your pup doesn't seem over the moon about a particular fragrance, fret not – just like humans, dogs have their own personal tastes.
If you pup doesn't allow you to spray directly on to their fur, try spraying the pawfume directly into your hands and massaging it through their coat.
Please be sure to review our returns policy. We value your understanding that we can't offer refunds or exchanges for change-of-mind situations.
Can I store HoD pawfume in my car?
Our pawfumes are alcohol-free, ensuring they're not a flammable risk even when kept in the car. Nevertheless, intense heat and prolonged sunlight exposure can hasten the spoiling of the perfume, leading to changes in its fragrance and durability. To preserve its freshness, store it in a cool, dim location. We suggest spritzing the pawfume onto your dog's bedding within the car to infuse a pleasant aroma. Avoid directly spraying it onto car surfaces, as we haven't examined its effects on different materials and cannot be held responsible for any potential damages.
Are houseofdog pawfumes tested on animals?
Our vegan scents are cruelty free. They have been lovingly tested on Ralph, who, despite his size, is a slightly senstive soul. Our pawfumes have also been used on any other doggo that I could get my paws on - they got a bonus zhuzh.
What do top, base and middle notes mean?
Think of fragrance notes like a symphony of scents. Top notes are the initial burst of fragrance, middle notes are the heart of the scent experience, and base notes are the lingering harmonies that create a complete and well-rounded fragrance composition.
When will other scents be available?
We have big plans for houseofdog. Make sure you sign up to be a HoDdie so that you’re first in the know for new product releases and special offers.
